Lubrication of Drum Motors
Bearings are the most vulnerable components in rollers, and the lubrication of drum motors essentially refers to the lubrication of bearings. To ensure proper operation of bearings, avoid direct contact between the raceways and rolling elements, reduce internal friction and wear, and improve bearing performance and service life, regular lubrication of bearings is essential. Grease lubrication is used, with lithium-based grease as the recommended type.
(1) Lubrication Methods
Bearing lubrication generally employs grease gun lubrication and centralized lubrication systems.
The grease gun method involves injecting grease into the bearing housing using a grease gun.
Centralized lubrication systems use manual or electric grease pumps for timed and quantitative supply. Centralized lubrication systems should be regularly inspected for pipe damage, loosening, or blockage, the movement of the indicator rod of the distribution valve should be confirmed, and filters on the piping should be cleaned periodically.
(2) Amount of Lubricating Grease
For new or replaced bearings, under normal conditions, the bearing space should be completely filled with new grease, while the bearing housing should be filled to approximately 2/3 of its capacity.
(3) Regular Relubrication
After a period of operation, the bearings in drum motors require additional grease supplementation, typically at intervals of about half a month, depending on actual operating conditions.
Supplemental lubrication serves the following purposes: lubricating the bearings and protecting the shaft; cooling the shaft and components within the bearing housing; and cleaning the bearing housing.
Specific lubrication method: Use a grease gun to aim at the lubrication port, with excess grease being discharged from the overflow port; if the bearing housing does not have an overflow port, excess grease can also be discharged from the side oil seal.
Removal and Installation of Bearing Housings in Drum Motors
Removal of Bearing Housings in Drum Motors:
In field operation, once shaft breakage, bearing or bearing housing damage occurs, the equipment should be shut down immediately, and the damaged drum motor should be removed for maintenance to avoid material accumulation caused by conveyor belt slippage, which affects the safe operation of the conveyor. The following introduces the removal method for integral bearing housings: remove the bolts, then remove the end cover and paper gasket from the shaft, and finally remove the bearing housing from the shaft.
Installation of Bearing Housings in Drum Motors:
After removing the drum motor for maintenance or replacement, the bearing housing needs to be reinstalled. The following introduces the installation method for integral bearing housings: First, inspect all parts for installing the bearing housing. Check all parts according to the drawings to ensure they are qualified; any unqualified parts must be completely replaced. Only after confirming that all parts are qualified can preparation for installation begin. Clean all parts required for the bearing housing installation. When assembling medium and large bearings, the hot mounting method is generally used, which includes oil bath heating and electromagnetic induction heating. Precautions for oil bath heating are as follows: Do not heat the bearing above 120℃. To prevent the bearing from directly contacting the bottom of the oil tank, it is best to place the bearing on a metal mesh platform or hang it. Heat the bearing to the required temperature, preventing the inner ring from cooling during installation, which would make it difficult to install. After installation, the bearing will cool down and contract in the width direction, so use a lock nut or other suitable methods to secure it, preventing gaps from forming between the inner ring and the inner seal ring.
